Overview

Private research university based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, built primarily around graduate and professional health programs, with a substantial undergraduate college operating alongside them. NSU is unusual in how directly its undergraduate population intersects with its professional schools — osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, and nursing all operate on or near the main campus, giving undergraduates real proximity to the graduate health programs many of them aim to eventually join.

Academics

Health professions are the clear institutional strength, and undergraduates interested in medicine, pharmacy, or dentistry benefit from early-assurance and dual-admission pipelines that can secure a spot in one of NSU's own graduate professional programs before finishing an undergraduate degree. Marine and oceanographic science is another notable program, aided by South Florida's coastal location. The undergraduate college is smaller in scale relative to the university's overall size, which includes a large number of graduate and professional students.

Campus & student life

The suburban Fort Lauderdale campus includes a major performing-arts and research complex alongside more typical academic buildings, giving it a more institutional, professional feel than a traditional small liberal-arts campus. South Florida's climate and location shape student life, and athletics compete at the Division II level rather than being a major campus draw. The mix of undergraduate and professional-school populations gives the campus a more mature, career-focused atmosphere than many undergraduate-only institutions.

Getting in

Undergraduate admission is credential-based, but applicants interested in NSU's early-assurance medical, pharmacy, or dental pipelines face additional review criteria specific to those programs, often applied directly out of high school. The university actively markets these pipelines as a distinct draw, separate from its general undergraduate admissions profile.
