St. Joseph's University, New York, founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph, operates two campuses — one in Brooklyn's Clinton Hill and one in Patchogue on Long Island — serving a largely commuter student population across both locations.
Education, nursing, and business are its central programs, delivered in small classes with an emphasis on direct faculty contact rather than large lectures. The independent Catholic heritage informs the university's mission without imposing heavy religious requirements on students.
With most students commuting rather than residing on campus, the social culture across both locations is lower-key and more integrated with students' home communities than at a traditional residential college.
Admission is comparatively accessible and geared toward local New York City and Long Island students rather than a national applicant pool.
The two-campus structure means the on-the-ground experience differs meaningfully depending on whether a student attends the Brooklyn or Patchogue location, and applicants should look into which one their intended program is actually based at.
