Penn State Brandywine is one of Penn State's commonwealth campuses, located in the Philadelphia suburbs, offering a smaller, more personal entry point into the Penn State system than the University Park flagship.
A handful of degrees can be completed entirely at Brandywine, but the more common path is the "2+2" model — starting coursework at Brandywine with smaller classes, then transferring to University Park to finish a specific major and graduate with a Penn State degree from the flagship. Class sizes at Brandywine tend to run smaller than what a student would experience starting directly at University Park.
The campus is commuter-friendly and modest in scale, without the large-campus social infrastructure of University Park, but students retain access to Penn State's broader resources, including its library system and career services, and eventually its alumni network once they finish their degree.
Students considering Brandywine should have a clear sense of whether they intend to stay all four years or transfer to University Park partway through, since the two paths shape the experience differently — not every major can be completed at Brandywine alone.
