Concordia University, Nebraska is a small Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod university in Seward, a small town outside Lincoln. Its founding purpose was training teachers and church workers for Lutheran schools and congregations nationwide, and that mission still shapes the institution's culture even as it has added business and health science programs.
Teacher education remains the historic core, with graduates placed in Lutheran schools across the country, alongside training for directors of Christian education and other church-worker vocations. Business and health sciences have grown into larger, more contemporary parts of the curriculum as the university has broadened beyond its original denominational-service mission.
The LCMS church-worker pipeline is unusual among small regional universities and gives Concordia a built-in placement network within Lutheran schools and congregations that a purely secular teacher-education program would not have. Its small-town Nebraska setting means a close-knit, modest-scale college experience.
