American International College is a private college in Springfield, Massachusetts, founded specifically to educate immigrants and still serving a heavily first-generation, diverse student body more than a century later. It sits in a mid-sized New England city rather than a rural college town.
Health sciences, business, and criminal justice are the college's primary career-oriented programs, structured to move students efficiently into professional fields, with physical and occupational therapy graduate programs that build on a strong undergraduate health-sciences pipeline.
Springfield gives students access to a real city environment, and AIC's campus culture reflects its historic mission of educational access. Athletics (the Yellow Jackets) compete mostly at the NCAA Division II level, but the ice hockey program plays at the Division I level, a notable quirk that gives the team a real regional reputation despite the college's small overall size.
AIC's admissions process is accessible and geared toward students who may be first in their family to attend college, with support structures built around that population rather than a highly selective, essay-driven review.
The Division I ice hockey program, unusual for a college whose other sports compete at the Division II level, is a genuine point of campus pride and visibility beyond the college's size.
