Goshen College is a Mennonite liberal-arts college in Goshen, in northern Indiana, shaped by Anabaptist values of service, simplicity, and reconciliation. It is small and closely tied to the surrounding Mennonite communities of the region.
Peace and justice studies is a signature strength few other colleges offer with the same depth, and nursing is also well established. Goshen's Study-Service Term — a required semester of study and service abroad, typically in a Latin American, African, or Asian country — has been a graduation requirement for decades and is one of the longest continuously running required study-abroad programs in the country.
Campus culture reflects the college's Mennonite heritage: an emphasis on sustainability, simple living, and service runs through student life alongside standard college activities and athletics.
Goshen reviews holistically, with attention to fit for its values-oriented community as well as academic readiness.
Graduates go disproportionately into service-oriented fields — nonprofit work, ministry, education, healthcare, international development — reflecting the college's mission emphasis, and the Study-Service Term is frequently cited by alumni as formative for that career direction.
The Study-Service Term is not optional or elective — nearly every student completes an international service term as a graduation requirement, a significant commitment of time and adjustment that applicants should understand before enrolling.
