Southwestern College is a private, United Methodist-affiliated college on a hilltop campus in Winfield, in south-central Kansas. It maintains a small traditional residential college alongside a much larger Professional Studies division serving working adults and military-connected learners through accelerated and online formats — two quite different populations under one institutional roof.
On the traditional side, teacher education and music are long-standing strengths, taught in small classes with close faculty mentorship. The Professional Studies division offers degree-completion and adult-friendly programs in business and related fields, built around flexible scheduling rather than a conventional four-year path.
The residential campus centers on its Moundbuilders athletic teams and Methodist-affiliated campus traditions, with a small, close community typical of rural Kansas colleges. The much larger adult and military-learner population is mostly online and rarely sets foot on the physical campus, making Southwestern effectively two institutions in one.
Traditional undergraduate admission is accessible and personal; the adult and military programs emphasize transfer-credit flexibility and prior learning over conventional application review.
Education graduates place into Kansas classrooms, while the Professional Studies division exists specifically to help working adults and service members finish degrees they started elsewhere.
