LSU Health Sciences Center-Shreveport is the LSU System's academic medical center in northwest Louisiana, built around schools of medicine, graduate studies, and allied health rather than a traditional undergraduate college. Its identity is that of a working academic hospital campus, a place where clinical care, medical education, and biomedical research happen side by side, and undergraduates who attend do so almost entirely through allied-health degree programs layered onto that medical-center infrastructure.
The allied-health programs place students inside an actual hospital and clinical environment from early in their training, rather than in classroom-only instruction. This clinical immersion is the defining academic experience for undergraduates here, closer to a professional training pipeline than a campus-based liberal-arts degree.
Students should understand this as a health-sciences and medical-center campus first, with a small undergraduate allied-health presence, not a comprehensive university with a full range of majors.
