Dallas Baptist University is a private Christian university on a hilltop campus in southwest Dallas, affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Faith is integrated formally into coursework rather than kept separate from academics, and the university serves a mix of traditional undergraduates and a large population of working adults and graduate students pursuing degrees around jobs and family life.
Business, education, and ministry-related fields are the strongest draws, reflecting the university's Baptist heritage and its role training pastors, teachers, and church staff alongside more conventional business majors. Programs built around evening, weekend, and accelerated formats serve the substantial adult-completion population, and graduate programs make up a meaningful share of total enrollment.
The campus sits on a hill in southwest Dallas, with a mix of contemporary buildings and at least one landmark structure built to evoke colonial-era American architecture. Christian practice, chapel, and campus ministry are woven into daily life rather than optional add-ons, and the atmosphere is more conservative and faith-forward than a typical regional university.
The large adult and graduate population changes the character of the place compared with a traditional four-year college — commuter and evening students are common, not an afterthought. Faith commitments are taken seriously in campus culture and expected of students who enroll, not merely offered as an option.
