The University of Louisiana at Monroe is a regional public university in northeastern Louisiana whose College of Pharmacy has served the state for over a century, making health sciences the school's clear standout. Bayou DeSiard runs directly through campus, and most students come from the surrounding Delta parishes.
Pharmacy is ULM's signature program and one of the longest-running in the state, giving the university an outsized health-sciences reputation relative to its overall size. Nursing and other health-related fields benefit from the same regional pipeline.
The bayou setting running through campus is a defining physical feature, and the student body is drawn heavily from the surrounding Delta region, giving ULM a strongly regional, close-to-home character.
The pharmacy program's century-plus history is a real point of distinction and the main reason students look at ULM from outside its immediate region.
