The Medical Sciences Campus is the University of Puerto Rico's public academic health center, based in San Juan and central to health professional training across the island. It trains students in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, and public health, working alongside Puerto Rico's major teaching hospitals. While graduate and professional programs make up most of its enrollment, undergraduate study is concentrated in nursing and allied-health fields.
Undergraduates share a campus with medical, dental, and pharmacy students, giving nursing and health-sciences majors unusually close proximity to clinical training environments and health professional faculty relative to a standalone undergraduate nursing program. Instruction draws on the campus's deep ties to the island's public teaching hospitals.
As the flagship public health-sciences training ground for Puerto Rico, the campus supplies a large share of the island's nurses and health professionals, and many graduates go on to serve within Puerto Rico's own hospital and public health systems.
The campus functions more like a health sciences center than a conventional four-year college. Most of the depth is graduate and professional, so undergraduates should expect an environment organized primarily around advanced health training rather than traditional undergraduate campus life.
