Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, is a Catholic Benedictine liberal arts college attached to Saint Vincent Archabbey, the first Benedictine monastery founded in the United States. The monastic community remains active on campus, and the college pairs that heritage with a traditional liberal arts curriculum.
Business and the sciences are solid, well-established programs, and pre-professional tracks feeding into law, medicine, and other graduate paths have a good track record. The Benedictine emphasis on balance between intellectual, spiritual, and communal life shapes the general education requirements alongside major-specific coursework.
The college's best-known claim to broader fame is that its campus has long served as the summer training camp of the Pittsburgh Steelers, giving the community a recurring taste of NFL life each summer that few small colleges anywhere can match. Otherwise, the wooded Laurel Highlands setting keeps the campus quiet and close-knit outside of camp season.
Steelers training camp draws fans and media to campus every summer, a genuinely unusual annual event for a college this size, and it has become part of the school's identity well beyond its own student body. The active Benedictine monastery on campus is a rarer and more enduring distinguishing feature.
