Stonehill College is a private Catholic college in Easton, Massachusetts, on a former estate south of Boston, founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross. It combines a Catholic mission and small residential community with a career-practical bent, positioning itself between a traditional liberal-arts college and a professionally oriented university.
Business and health sciences are the largest and most career-directed programs, but the college maintains a genuine liberal-arts core across the humanities and sciences rather than treating general education as an afterthought. Class sizes are small, and the college emphasizes close faculty relationships and hands-on opportunities even for undergraduates outside dedicated honors tracks.
The Easton campus, built on a former industrial-family estate, gives Stonehill a distinctly landscaped, traditional-college look despite its proximity — a manageable drive or train ride — to Boston's internship and job market. Catholic identity is present in campus life through a chapel, campus ministry, and service programs, without being as doctrinally central to daily student life as at a more explicitly evangelical school.
Admissions is holistic, with essays and demonstrated interest carrying real weight alongside academic record — Stonehill is selective enough that fit and writing quality matter, not just grades and scores. Community service and values-aligned backgrounds show up often among applicants, though the college is not restrictive about religious background.
The Boston-area job market is a real asset for internships and post-graduation placement, particularly in business, health sciences, and finance, and the college's relatively small, tight-knit alumni network is concentrated in the greater Boston and New England region.
Stonehill moved its athletics program toward NCAA Division I in recent years, a significant shift from its long history as a Division II competitor, which has raised its athletic profile beyond what a college its size would typically have.
