Dordt University, in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a private Christian university rooted in the Reformed tradition of the Christian Reformed Church in North America. Its guiding idea, drawn from that Reformed tradition, is that faith should shape every field of study rather than being confined to religion courses — a framework that runs through the entire curriculum.
Engineering, agriculture, education, and nursing are Dordt's strongest programs, each taught within that Reformed worldview framework, and agriculture in particular benefits from the university's location in the middle of Iowa farm country. Dordt has consistently posted strong student-engagement results in national surveys, reflecting close faculty-student relationships typical of a small campus.
The Sioux Center community is closely connected to the university and strongly church-affiliated, giving Dordt a tight-knit, faith-integrated daily culture rather than a campus that is Christian in name only. Northwest Iowa's rural setting means student life centers heavily on campus itself.
The Reformed idea that faith should shape every field of study, not just religious life, genuinely runs through how courses in engineering, agriculture, and the sciences are taught at Dordt, and prospective students should understand that this worldview integration is central to the experience, not a side offering.
