Rogers State University is a public university in Claremore, Oklahoma, northeast of Tulsa, named for the county that carries the family name of humorist Will Rogers. It serves a largely regional, commuter-based student population from northeastern Oklahoma with an emphasis on accessible, career-oriented degree programs.
Business, nursing, and criminal justice are the most established programs, built around direct workforce preparation for the surrounding region, and the university operates its own public television station, an unusual asset for a school of its size that supports its communications and media programs.
Most students commute or live close to campus, and Claremore's small-town setting means student life centers on campus organizations and athletics rather than an off-campus college-town scene.
The university-run public television station is a genuinely distinctive resource that gives communications and broadcasting students real production experience most regional public universities can't offer.
