DePauw is a liberal arts college in Greencastle, Indiana with Methodist heritage, combining traditional liberal-arts study with distinctive professional and creative programs.
The School of Music is DePauw's most nationally distinctive academic feature, offering conservatory-level training alongside a full liberal-arts degree, an unusual combination for a college this size. A long-standing media and journalism tradition and management and entrepreneurship fellows programs pair classroom study with structured real-world projects, giving students named cohort experiences beyond a standard major.
Greek life is prominent at DePauw, with a large share of students affiliating with fraternities or sororities, and it shapes much of the college's social and residential culture. A tight, vocal alumni network is a recurring theme, with many graduates staying closely connected to the college and to each other professionally.
Admissions is holistic, and the fellows programs (management, media, science, and others) often require a separate application on top of general admission, giving DePauw an unusual layered process for students seeking one of those named tracks.
DePauw's alumni network is known for being unusually active in placing graduates, particularly out of the media and management fellows programs, into competitive first jobs and later leadership roles.
The fellows programs are genuinely distinct from a normal major or minor, functioning as a parallel, cohort-based curriculum with their own admission and requirements, and are one of the more concrete reasons students choose DePauw specifically over a similarly sized liberal arts college.
