Telshe Yeshiva-Chicago continues the lineage of the Telz yeshiva of Lithuania, one of the most respected centers of pre-war European Talmudic scholarship, reestablished in the United States after the Holocaust destroyed the original institution. It serves Orthodox Jewish men pursuing full-time advanced Talmudic study rather than a conventional undergraduate curriculum, following the analytical, close-reading style of Talmud study associated with the Telz tradition.
The Telz method is known within the yeshiva world for its rigorous, analytical approach to Talmudic logic, distinct from some other Lithuanian-style yeshivas in its particular emphasis on conceptual precision. Students typically progress through years of study toward rabbinic ordination, and the school's identity is inseparable from its historical lineage back to the original Telz yeshiva rather than being a newly founded institution.
