Creighton University is a Jesuit Catholic university in Omaha, Nebraska, and one of the most health-sciences-heavy Jesuit institutions in the country. Its identity blends a traditional Jesuit liberal-arts core with an unusually large cluster of professional health schools for a university of its size.
Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and nursing are all housed at Creighton, giving undergraduates on a pre-health track access to advising, shadowing, and research connections that many standalone liberal-arts colleges cannot offer. The Jesuit core curriculum requires coursework in philosophy, theology, and ethics across all majors, and business and health sciences are the most heavily enrolled undergraduate paths.
The campus sits just northwest of downtown Omaha in a compact, walkable footprint, and most undergraduates live on campus for at least their first two years. Bluejay basketball is the emotional center of campus life, drawing strong student turnout, and a service ethic tied to the Jesuit mission shows up in extensive volunteer and community-engagement programs.
Creighton's application evaluates the whole student, with essays and extracurricular service or leadership carrying real weight alongside grades and coursework rigor, consistent with Jesuit institutions generally. Pre-health applicants in particular benefit from knowing the university's own graduate health schools sit on the same campus.
Graduates headed toward medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, or nursing benefit from a well-worn in-house pipeline into Creighton's own graduate programs, and the university's health-sciences reputation extends its name recognition well beyond the Midwest among pre-health advisors nationally.
The combination of a full slate of graduate health schools with a relatively small undergraduate college is unusual, and it shapes pre-health advising, research opportunities, and campus culture more than at most Jesuit schools of comparable size.
