Northwestern Oklahoma State University, in Alva near the Kansas line in rural northwest Oklahoma, is a small public regional university serving its agricultural region with accessible programs and a tight-knit campus.
Education, business, nursing, and agriculture are the main program areas, taught in small classes that reflect both the university's size and its role serving a rural student population, many of whom come from farming and ranching communities in the surrounding counties.
Alva is a small rural town, and campus life is correspondingly modest and community-centered rather than built around a surrounding city. Most students come from the immediate region, giving the campus a close, familiar character.
Admission is accessible, reflecting the university's role as the regional access point for higher education in rural northwest Oklahoma.
