Albizu University's San Juan campus grew out of the institute founded by Carlos Albizu Miranda, a pioneering Puerto Rican psychologist, and remains one of the longest-running institutions anywhere devoted specifically to clinical psychology training. Programs are taught primarily in Spanish, serving Puerto Rico and the broader Spanish-speaking Caribbean and Latin American student population.
Psychology is the clear core, with speech-language pathology and counseling programs extending the same behavioral-health focus. Clinical training and practicum placement are built into the curriculum from early on, reflecting the university's founding emphasis on applied clinical work over general liberal-arts breadth.
Because instruction is primarily in Spanish and the institution specializes so heavily in psychology and health fields, it is a distinctive option mainly for students set on those career paths rather than students seeking a broad undergraduate liberal-arts experience.
