The MAA American Mathematics Competitions are 75-minute, 25-question multiple-choice contests: the AMC 10 for students in grade 10 and below (under 17.5 years old) and the AMC 12 for grade 12 and below (under 19.5), each offered on an A date and a B date every November. Top scorers qualify for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME), now given at professional testing centers, and from there for the USA (Junior) Mathematical Olympiad, the first steps toward the U.S. International Mathematical Olympiad team. Over 300,000 students take the AMC each year through their schools, which register as competition sites and proctor the exam.
