Rising juniors, seniors, and recent graduates (within two years, not yet enrolled in college) spend a school-year semester as part-time virtual interns with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, working on a STEM research project with a lab mentor for about 16-17 weeks, January through May. It's limited to students living in one of ten East Tennessee counties (Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Knox, Loudon, McMinn, Monroe, Morgan, Roane, or Sevier), and requires a 3.0 GPA, U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency, health insurance coverage, and being at least 16. Applications go through the Zintellect platform and require two recommendations: one from a STEM teacher and one from a principal or homeschool curriculum coordinator.
