Economics for Leaders is a seven-day residential program that uses economic reasoning, negotiation, and public-policy case studies to build leadership skills, running at roughly a dozen university campuses across the country each summer. Sophomores and juniors apply with a teacher recommendation, transcript, and personal essays for a $35 nonrefundable fee; the program is competitive, with about two applicants for every one of the 25-40 spots at each site. Tuition is $2,800 covering room, board, and instruction, and partial scholarships of $100-$2,000 are available, though travel to campus is the student's own responsibility.
