SEAP places academically strong high school students in an eight-week summer apprenticeship at one of more than 25 Navy and Department of Defense laboratories around the country, working one-on-one with a scientist or engineer mentor. First-year apprentices are paid $4,000 and returning apprentices $4,500; students cover their own transportation to the lab site. Selection is based on grades, STEM coursework, standardized test scores, recommendations, and a personal statement, and some labs may require the ability to obtain a security clearance. The online application for the Summer 2027 program is expected to open in September 2026.
