UC Berkeley's ROAR Academy is a two-week, weekday day program (July 6-17 in 2026, 9am-3pm) for California residents entering grades 10 through 12 who already have basic Python programming background. You spend the program exploring engineering majors and career paths through hands-on programming, hardware, and software projects alongside Berkeley faculty and students. It's a commuter program only, not overnight - you arrange your own transportation and, if needed, housing. The $2,200 tuition includes daily lunch and snacks, plus a $50 non-refundable application fee; applying takes an application form and an unofficial transcript, with an early deadline in late March, financial-aid-linked decisions in mid-April, and rolling review after that.
