Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's Partners for the Future, running since 1990, places Long Island high school seniors in a CSHL lab for original research from September through March, working at least 10 hours a week under a scientist mentor. Candidates are nominated by their school's science department chair during junior year, and semifinalists are interviewed by CSHL scientists before finalists are chosen. Some participants have gone on to earn co-authorship on published research.
