Civil Air Patrol's National Flight Academy gives CAP cadets introductory flight instruction from a certified flight instructor during an intensive residential session, plus exposure to civilian and military aviation professionals. It runs as several separate regional academies each spring and summer (for example in Maryland, Alaska, and the Great Lakes region), most priced around $1,400 with a minimum age of 16. Applicants must already be CAP cadets who have completed encampment; need-based Cadet Encampment Assistance Program funding can cover up to 100% of the fee. CAP cadet membership itself is open to any student ages 12-18 through a local squadron.
