UCSF's Science & Health Education Partnership (SEP) High School Intern Program matches San Francisco public high school juniors with a UCSF scientist mentor for an eight-week, 35-hour-a-week research project in areas like immunology, neuroscience, cancer, or developmental biology. It's free to participate and interns receive $4,500 upon completing the program. The program is limited to students enrolled in SFUSD or an SF public charter school, and selection is based on maturity, motivation, and interest rather than grades. The 2026 cycle closed February 8; a 2027 interest form is open so students can be notified when the next application opens.
