HSMC is a six-week residential summer program at Texas State University where high schoolers study number theory, combinatorics, and abstract algebra while building proof-writing skills, with returning students moving into original research with faculty mentors. Applicants from across the country (and occasionally abroad) submit a one-page essay, a transcript, and a teacher recommendation, with admissions reviewed on a rolling basis starting in mid-February. The program costs $6,600 for six weeks of room, board, and instruction, and need-based scholarships are available.
