Students research a historical topic tied to an annual theme (2027: "Innovation in History: Impact, Influence, Change") and present it as a paper, exhibit, documentary, performance, or website, individually or in a group. Entries move through school, local/affiliate, and state contests before the top scorers are invited to the National Contest, held June 13-17, 2027 at the University of Maryland, College Park. The Senior Division serves grades 9-12; costs and exact deadlines are set by each local affiliate rather than nationally.
