The MATE ROV Competition challenges K-12 and college teams to design and build an underwater remotely operated vehicle, plus the sensors and tooling to complete mission tasks drawn from real ocean-science and industry work. Teams compete in classes matched to their experience at regional events across the U.S. and abroad, and qualifying teams advance to the World Championship (held in Alpena, Michigan in 2025). Mentors are expected to guide, not build.
