Rising seniors (students who have completed 11th grade) spend six weeks, Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5pm, working alongside Brookhaven National Laboratory scientific, engineering, and technical staff on hands-on research projects. It's a commuter program with no stipend, housing, or transportation provided, so it's realistic mainly for students who live near Upton, NY. Applicants must be at least 16 by the program start, a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, and carry active health insurance. Applying requires an online form with parent/guardian and school contact information, plus two recommendation letters, ideally from STEM teachers or mentors. The 2026 session ran July 6-August 14; the next cycle's dates aren't posted yet.
