The Simons Summer Research Program places high school juniors directly in Stony Brook University research labs for about six weeks, working alongside faculty mentors on an original science, math, or engineering project. There's no tuition or application fee, though students cover their own transportation, meals, and housing if they choose the residential option. The program draws far more qualified applicants than it can accommodate. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at least 16 years old, and the application requires an unofficial transcript, short written responses, and two teacher recommendations.
