MIT PRIMES pairs high school sophomores and juniors with MIT researchers on open problems in math, theoretical computer science, or computational biology, often producing a paper students submit to journals or competitions. The in-person MIT PRIMES track meets weekly on campus and is limited to Greater Boston, while PRIMES-USA offers the same kind of mentorship remotely to students anywhere else in the country. This runs across the school year rather than as a short summer program, requires a selective application, and is entirely free.
