The Governor's School of North Carolina is a four-week residential summer program that brings gifted and talented high schoolers to two campuses — Governor's School East at Meredith College and Governor's School West at Greensboro College — for ungraded, credit-free coursework across ten discipline areas chosen for learning's own sake. Students can only be nominated by their public or private school, must generally be a current 11th grader (10th graders may be nominated only for Dance, Choral Music, or Instrumental Music), and may attend only once. There is a $600 non-refundable tuition cost plus travel, though the NC Governor's School Foundation offers need-based scholarships so any selected student can attend. The 2027 session runs June 20 to July 17.
