PROMYS is a six-week summer program at Boston University where about 80 high school students dive deep into number theory alongside research mathematicians and counselors. Admission is based on a challenging problem set, a teacher recommendation, and a transcript rather than grades or test scores alone. The program is free for domestic families earning under $80,000 a year, and need-based aid covers the rest of the roughly $8,000 cost for everyone else. Students live on campus for the full six weeks.
