The Governor's Institutes of Vermont run eight subject-specific Summer Institutes — Arts, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Global Issues & Youth Action, Health & Medicine, Mathematical Sciences, Technology & Design, and Weather & Climate Science — open to any Vermont 9th, 10th, or 11th grader regardless of background or prior experience. The online application includes basic student information, short topic-selection essays, and a teacher recommendation submitted through GIV's portal. Students live in dorms on their institute's host college campus, and tuition runs on a sliding scale based on household income, so a family can pay as little as $10.
