Students write a Chinese-language essay on the year's announced theme (2026: "Chinese Festivals"), with a High School (grades 9-12) category among the contest's divisions. A teacher submits one entry form per participating student through the contest's online form. This is the longest-running of CLASS's several Chinese-language student contests, held annually since 2003.
