The American Legion Auxiliary's Department of North Carolina gives out one Nannie W. Norfleet Scholarship each year to a North Carolina resident in their senior year of high school who needs financial help continuing their education; the award amount is set annually by the department's finance committee rather than published in advance. You'll need 50 hours of documented volunteer service, four letters of recommendation, and a short essay on the value of volunteering in your community. Children and grandchildren of Auxiliary members get first consideration, but membership isn't required to apply.
