The Thea Foundation, a North Little Rock nonprofit, awards Arkansas high school seniors college scholarships based solely on artistic talent — never on GPA, test scores, or intended college major — through competitions in visual arts, performing arts, creative writing, film, and fashion design. The foundation gives out about $220,000 in scholarships each year (36 students were awarded in the most recent cycle), with individual awards running up to $10,000 and applied to the recipient's freshman year; students who enroll at one of Thea's partner Arkansas colleges can also receive matching institutional aid. Since its 2001 founding, Thea has awarded more than $3.4 million in scholarships.
