21st Century Scholars pays up to 100% of tuition at Indiana public colleges (a partial amount at private colleges) for up to four years. Enrollment happens in 7th or 8th grade for income-eligible Indiana students (the only exception is students in foster care, who may enroll anytime through 12th grade); once enrolled, a student must sign the Scholar Pledge, keep a 2.5 GPA, avoid drug/alcohol and legal trouble, and log 12 Scholar Success Program activities (three per year) before graduating to actually receive the award.
DemographicsEnrollment as a Scholar must happen by June 30 of the student's 8th-grade year and is based on family income (free/reduced-price lunch guidelines); the only exception is students in foster care, who may enroll anytime during high school. Students who enroll in 7th/8th grade must then complete all requirements (Scholar Pledge, GPA, Scholar Success Program activities) throughout high school to receive the award at graduation.
