Funded through Berkeley Electric Cooperative's Operation Round Up program, the Berkeley Electric Trust awards ten $2,500 scholarships each year to graduating seniors from the co-op's Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester county service area. Applicants need a minimum 2.5 GPA, a plan to attend an accredited college or technical/trade school, demonstrated financial need, and a guidance counselor's endorsement. Funds are paid directly to the student's school for tuition and fees rather than to the student.
DemographicsThe applicant or their parent/guardian must be a member of Berkeley Electric Cooperative, which serves Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties; membership is simply being a co-op electric customer, with no separate paid membership fee. Children of the co-op's board members and employees are not eligible.
