The Edwards Scholarship Fund, established in 1939 by longtime Boston resident Grace M. Edwards, is a "gap" scholarship that covers the difference between a student's financial aid package and their family's expected contribution toward a four-year college, university, or accredited degree program (Massachusetts community colleges, already tuition-free, are excluded). Applicants must have lived at a permanent address in Boston continuously since the start of junior year of high school, hold at least a 2.0 GPA, and demonstrate financial need. The online application, submitted through the fund's GoApply portal, opens each March 1 and closes May 15 and requires an essay, a personal narrative, a FAFSA summary, a counselor recommendation, and a transcript; awards can renew for up to four undergraduate years. The fund is administered by Hemenway & Barnes LLP in Boston.
DemographicsMust have a permanent home address in the City of Boston continuously from the start of junior year of high school through the time of application; ineligible for Massachusetts community colleges (already tuition-free) or if related to a fund trustee, employee, or major donor.
