The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's Metropolitan Scholarship (called the Houston Area Scholarship in the sponsor's current 2026 guidelines) awards 350 four-year, $20,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from public, private, or charter high schools in the eight-county Houston metro area — Harris, Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Liberty, Montgomery, and Waller counties. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and Texas residents, rank in the top half of their class, and score at least 950 on the SAT (critical reading + math) or 19 on the ACT; there is no minimum GPA. One online application covers this and the Rodeo's other scholarship tracks; a school official must submit a companion form verifying rank, GPA, and transcript, and a completed FAFSA (with a non-estimated Student Aid Index) is required. Submitted essays are screened for AI-generated content and disqualified if 65% or more is flagged. Recipients must attend an accredited, not-for-profit Texas college or university, cannot also hold a last-dollar or full-ride award from another source, and have funds paid each semester directly to their school.
