Delaware high school students in grades 9 through 12 can enter the American Legion's Department of Delaware Oratorical Contest, delivering a prepared speech on the U.S. Constitution plus a short response to a topic assigned the day of the contest. The Department awards scholarships to the top three finishers at the state level, on top of anything a Delaware winner could go on to earn at the national contest. Students enter through a local Legion Post rather than applying directly online.
DemographicsOpen to Delaware high school students in grades 9-12, U.S. citizens or resident aliens, sponsored by a local American Legion Post; no Legion membership required to compete.
