National History Day is a yearlong research program where students create a documentary, exhibit, paper, performance, or website on an annual historical theme. Entries advance through school, regional, and state/affiliate contests to the National Contest held each June at the University of Maryland. Top entries in each category and division receive awards, and additional named special prizes are presented by contest sponsors.
