Run by CBC Spouses alongside the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, this annual contest asks African-American and Black high school juniors and seniors to write an essay responding to a prompt on one of their communities' most pressing issues and to defend their research, analysis, and opinion. A committee of CBC Spouses judges the submissions. The contest opens each January and closes in late March. CBCF does not publish this contest's specific award amount, though it notes that it awards more than 300 scholarships across all of its programs each year.
