Formerly known as the Chancellor's and Powers-Knapp Scholarship Program, the Mercile J. Lee Scholars Program (MJLSP) is UW-Madison's premier undergraduate scholarship, covering tuition and segregated fees plus a book stipend for up to eight consecutive semesters (fall/spring only). There's no separate application - the Office of Admissions & Recruitment reviews every freshman application to UW-Madison to identify eligible students, so applicants should use their essay and activities list to highlight relevant experiences. Eligible students must plan to enroll as a new freshman, hold at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and come from a background where hardship or disadvantage (low income, first-generation status, an under-resourced high school, etc.) has affected their educational opportunities. Recipients must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, complete the FAFSA by May 1 with no exceptions, and maintain a 3.0 term and cumulative GPA plus full-time enrollment (12+ credits/semester) to keep the award.
DemographicsRequires admission to University of Wisconsin-Madison; min. 3.0 GPA; documented background of hardship/disadvantage; U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
