The Alabama Rural Electric Association's Electric Cooperative Foundation, created in 1997, funds scholarships for graduating high school seniors who are dependents of members of a participating Alabama electric cooperative, for use toward post-secondary or vocational education at an accredited institution. Awards are administered independently by each of the Foundation's roughly 21 local districts, whose boards set their own amounts, number of recipients, and deadlines each year; the districts' electric cooperatives may help distribute applications, but final selection rests with the Foundation's Board of Directors. Contact your local Alabama electric cooperative for current amounts and deadlines.
