The Bright Foundation's Lois Dale Bright Scholarship is a need- and merit-based award set aside specifically for Des Moines Public Schools seniors admitted to Iowa State University, the University of Iowa, or the University of Northern Iowa, covering the resident cost of attendance beyond what other financial aid already provides. About 12 to 15 new scholarships are typically awarded each year to students with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and a FAFSA Student Aid Index of $10,000 or less. The award can renew for up to three additional years of full-time enrollment if the recipient maintains a 2.5 GPA, though renewal is not guaranteed.
DemographicsOpen only to graduating seniors of Des Moines Public Schools (DMPS) comprehensive high schools or the DMPS Virtual Campus who are admitted to Iowa State University, the University of Iowa, or the University of Northern Iowa; not open to students from other Iowa districts or students attending other colleges.
Pays the gap between resident cost of attendance and other financial aid (e.g. Pell Grant, institutional aid) the student has already been awarded.
